Feedback relating to Issue 15

1. A VOTER’S CONCERN ABOUT DEFENSE AND JOBS:

HOLISTIC GOVERNANCE: Defense-related jobs play a key role in  Washington state’s economy, generating nearly $10.5 billion of labor income in the state while providing a lucrative business environment . Military bases alone support close to 104,000 jobs and serve as the center of numerous Washington communities.

But these activities are not sustainable.  Minimum security forces in a modern State is indicated. But over-militarization fuels the international arms race, wastes resources and is dangerous, if only because diplomacy is almost always slower than technology and the weapons race.

In 2006, at the Pentagon’s direction, Washington’s 81st Brigade left approximately 1,400 items , including weapons, radios, and vehicles, worth more than $30 million in Iraq for other units to use. Without equipment replacements, Washington’s 81st Brigade was forced to operate with only 60 percent of the total equipment needed to protect the state from civil and natural disasters. This Brigate should be better equiped. More body armor would also be needed as well as more sufficient protective, safety, and health equipment.

2. ANOTHER VOTER’S MADE DIFFERENT OBSERVATIONS ABOUT HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITY AND WASHINGTON STATE’S INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS.

HOLISTIC GOVERNANCE:  Washington state leaders have  developed innovative strategies to end poverty and help with humanitarian projects. The state is home to nearly 200 nonprofit organizations that work in 144 countries across five continents to confront global poverty challenges. Washington is also home to nearly 30 companies that provide valuable philanthropic support to international development projects, including the Bill and Milinda Gates Foundation. All of these organizations help provide access to clean water, food, shelter, and education around the world.

Washington state has  also been a leader in global development, with nearly 200 organizations doing groundbreaking humanitarian work around the world. Washington state’s global development community supports 3,000 jobs through a range of organizations including path, results, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and many Washington companies with global development projects.

In addition, the Joubert Holistic Governance campaign is proposing international development units with a specific mission (See Measures). The Joubert Holistic Governance campaign also encourages the development of multilateral agreements to eliminate tariffs around the world on exports of clean energy and environmental goods and services and other ethical and healthy merchandises. On the other hand, anything toxic should be heavily taxed and tariffed.
